Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, during a meeting with Uttarakhand Minister of Higher Education Dhan Singh Rawat, called on the state government to focus on empowering women through education in the mountainous areas.
Pokhriyal also announced that three Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and the Indian Institute of Scientific Education and Research will soon open in Uttarakhand. The minister made the announcement during the meeting with Rawat in Delhi on Wednesday.
“We will soon open three IIITs in public-private partnership mode in Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar. The state government should also give us suggestions for the establishment of IISER in the state. The Ministry of Education will award grants for the creation of these institutes as soon as possible, ”Pokhriyal said.
While discussing the central government’s plans for the empowerment of women, Pokhriyal also sought a proposal from the Uttarakhand government to provide higher education facilities for girls.
“In this proposal, the state government can give its three or four priorities taking into account the Himalayan, backward and remote areas, where the central government will initiate higher education facilities for girls. These projects can provide better solutions for the empowerment of women in the future, ”said the Union’s Minister of Education.
