Shiv Nadar Foundation sets up university in Chennai – education
Shiv Nadar University, the first private university to be legislated in Tamil Nadu in nine decades, was established near Chennai.
It was created by the Shiv Nadar Foundation, formed by Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL, a $ 9.9 billion company.
R Srinivasan, co-founder of Chennai-based supply chain solutions company Redington India Ltd, would be the rector of the university, established under the Shiv Nadar University Act 2018.

The University has become the first private university to be legislated in Tamil Nadu after 90 years (since the Annamalai University Law in 1928), following the approval of a bill by the state assembly to establish it.
Kala Vijayakumar, who played a key role in the management of SSN institutions since its inception in 1996, would be the University’s pro-chancellor.
The University has also appointed a renowned academic from one of the IITs as Vice Chancellor who will assume the new position in December 2020, according to a press release.
Former RBI Governor C Rangarajan and Turing Award winner Raj Reddy would be distinguished mentors from the university.
The university announced admissions for four programs in the school of engineering, school of business and management for the academic session 2021-22.
Established in Kalavakkam near Chennai, it would house facilities including academic and research blocks, stadium, library, sports center, student hostel, among many others.

The Shiv Nadar Foundation was created with this vision and has established institutions that offer world-class education to contribute to nation-building, ”HCL Technologies President Roshni Nadar Malhotra said in the statement.
“We are delighted to establish a world-class private university in Chennai … Shiv Nadar University will be a catalyst for new research, novel discoveries and the creation of new forms of expression,” he said in a statement.
The University would open for admissions in April 2021 with specialized courses in engineering and business disciplines.
It also plans to introduce a four-year bachelor’s program in business management in 2022-23.
Over the next five years, there are also plans to establish a Law School, the statement added.
