The Punjab government decided on Wednesday to reopen all schools from January 7 for students in classes 5 to 12.
State Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla said that following persistent demand from parents, the state government has decided to reopen all government, semi-government and private schools as of January 7. In a statement here, Singla said that the school hours will be from 10 am to 3 pm.
Only students in classes 5 to 12 will be able to physically attend their classes, the minister said.
Singla said while nodding his head, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh ordered the department to ensure the safety of the children, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister said that following CM instructions, all school administrations have been asked to strictly comply with all anti-Covid precautions in schools.
The Cabinet minister also said that the Department of Education had received comments from school principals.
In addition to ensuring the safety of the children, they also suggested reopening the schools before the annual exams for the final review of the course, he said.
