The Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) Prayagraj study centers will soon open at all state universities and select universities affiliated with them in the state, authorities said.
The UP governor, who is also the rector of all state universities, approved the measure and wrote to all interested rectors to take the appropriate measures in this regard, the officials added.
The initiative aims to give new impetus to distance education in Uttar Pradesh, where UPRTOU is the only open university in the state. Raj Bhavan in the state capital on November 18.
Following this, the university’s registrar, Professor GS Shukla, also sent a letter to Raj Bhavan, highlighting the fact that the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) administered centers in almost every university in the state. But state universities were not interested in opening a study center for UPRTOU, the only open state university in Uttar Pradesh, he explained.
Professor Singh said that the letter had stated that this was contrary to the intention of the state government.
The UPRTOU was also said to have played an important role in increasing the enrollment rate in higher education to 50% by 2030 in line with the goal of the union ministry of education.

This ultimately led the rector to formally ask the rectors of all state universities to do what was necessary, he explained.
For the creation of a study center, the university / college in question must submit an application through the official website of the UPRTOU www.uprtou.ac.in.
Taking note of this letter, the official of the chancellor in special functions, Keyur C Sampath, has sent a letter to the rectors of all the universities of the state.
