After being closed for months due to COVID-19 restrictions, schools for Class 6 onwards will reopen from January 1, 2021, Karnataka Education Minister S Suresh Kumar announced on Saturday.
“The Vidyagama program for classes 6-9 will begin on January 1, 2021, however, students will need to obtain written permission from their parents. Students in classes 10 to 12 can attend their regular classes from January 1, ”Kumar told the media.
The decision was made after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in the presence of Health Minister K Sudhakar and other officials, it added.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said students can attend classes two or three times a week.
“Our technical advisory committee has presented a report saying that students in classes 10 and 12 may be allowed to attend schools and colleges as they will face public examinations. Students can attend classes two or three times a week, ”he said.
Karnataka schools have been physically closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Union Ministry of Health, there are 15,399 active cases of COVID-19 in the state. So far, 8.79,735 and 11,989 deaths have been recovered.
