The Hindu College Alumni Association (OSA) will provide an annual study scholarship to deserving students in need, alumni members said.
The move comes in the context of the financial difficulties faced by students due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has created great problems for students from economically weaker sectors and they face a great challenge to pay their college fees,” said OSA President Ravi Burman.
“The association has decided to help these students, whose annual family income is below Rs 5 lakh, with a one-time study grant to cover their annual university fees up to Rs 20,000,” he said.
Students who wish to apply for this assistance can submit their application along with the family income certificate to the university’s accounts department.
“We also appeal to the distinguished alumni of the university to seek their support in this effort of ours to bring much needed relief to students in need at this time,” said Burman.
Several universities are establishing funds to support students during the pandemic, especially after an LSR College student died by suicide allegedly due to financial constraints to continue her education.
