Hindu College Alumni Association (OSA) here has disbursed scholarships worth Rs 6 lakh to students from their alma mater facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has created great problems for students in the economically weaker sections and they face a great challenge to pay their college fees,” said OSA President Ravi Burman.
“The association has decided to help those students, whose annual family income is less than Rs 5 lakh, with a one-time study grant to cover their annual university fees of up to Rs 20,000.
“The first batch of 35 students will have this grant sent directly to their bank accounts for a total of Rs 6.16,196. These students will receive the amounts paid directly transferred to their bank accounts within one week. Balance requests are being processed and will be finalized shortly, ”he added.
To offset the challenges of online classes and provide learning aids to students, OSA is also in the process of acquiring used laptops in working order and distributing them to students in need.
Several universities are establishing funds to support students during the pandemic, especially after an LSR College student died by suicide allegedly due to financial constraints to continue her education.
